President Mary McAleese is expected to pay her last official visit to Donegal this morning, Thursday, when she attends a special conference at the Letterkenny Institute of Technology which is being staged as part of the college’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
I.T. President, Paul Hannigan, said they were delighted to welcome Mrs. McAleese to the college campus as she nears the end of her fourteen years in office.
“This will be her final visit to the county in her capacity as President and it’s an honour to have her here,” he said.
The official celebrations got underway on Monday evening with the launch of a special book on the college, ‘From RTC TO LYIT’, compiled by retired lecturer, Dermot Cavanagh.
Attention switched to the School of Tourism in Killybegs on Tuesday where there were presentations by industry representatives, graduates and Failte Ireland.
Yesterday, saw the first day of an International Academic Conference in Letterkenny where the focus was on Building Bridges; Higher Education; Foreign Direct Investment and Regional Development.
The conference was continuing today with President McAleese due to arrive at the college at 11.a.m.
Traditional group, Altan, will perform at the college on Saturday September 8th along with the Donegal Youth Orchestra in a culmination of the 40th anniversary.
