New Childhood Identity programme starting next month
Commencing in February, Donegal County Childcare Committee (DCCC) will provide a series of Naonin le Chile Workshops around the county.
The initiative will provide practical training, meaningful activities and appropriate educational resources for early childhood educators working with children 0-5 years around the areas of diversity, individuality, identity and belonging through the mediums of art and drama. Training will be run over two days (9.30am-4.30pm), with Cultural Diversity taking place on the Friday of each session and Creative Arts on the Saturday.
The Cultural Diversity workshops will aim to promote an inclusive curriculum and the importance of valuing individual identity and enabling children to feel a sense of belonging. The Creative Arts workshops will be a practical demonstration of Art, Drama and Story Telling. There is no charge for the training, and refreshments will be provided.
The programmes are funded under the Peace III Programme and managed for the Special EU Programme Board by Donegal County Council,
Naonin le Chile has been designed to work in harmony with both the early childhood practice frameworks and current childcare legislation. Avril Sweeney, Manager of DCCC said, "Recognising, valuing and supporting the child as an individual and nurturing an emerging sense of identity and belonging are central messages within Ireland's national practice frameworks Solta and Aistear.
"These ideas are interwoven within the collective principles, aims and learning goals of the respective frameworks".
Training Dates are: February 4th-5th, An Granan Hotel, Burt; February 11th-12th, Donegal County Childcare Offices, Ballybofey; February 18th-19th, The Abbey Hotel, Donegal Town
Each participant will be awarded a professional development certificate of participation on completion of the programme; in addition each participating early childhood facility will receive a comprehensive resource pack, containing puppets, activities, educational resources and useful links.
