St Brigid's crosses at Derrybeg Ionad
The annual cross-making and traditional night in honour of St. Brigid drew a big crowd to the Ionad Lae Ghaoth Dobhair in Derrybeg earlier this week.
Plenty of rushes were on hand Monday night and participants used them to make plenty of crosses.
The local parish priest, an Sagart Pdraig Baoighill, called in at the end of the night to bless all the crosses on hand.
In keeping with the traditional style of the evening, the staff of the centre served tea and a feast of mashed potatoes -- britin -- which were prepared in the traditional manner. A large number of youngsters were present and eager to learn the craft of making the crosses.
The cross-making night is now an annual tradition, and much credit must go to Eileen and the staff of the ionad lae for organising the event.
