Bishop Séamus Hegarty, who recently retired on grounds of ill health from his post as Bishop of Derry and is a former Bishop of Raphoe, has issued a regarding the National Board for Safeguarding Children’s Reviews of the two dioceses.
He noted that both reports “indicate deficits in the management of allegations historically” including during his time as bishop and said he was “deeply sorry that anyone was hurt”.
He said the reviews showed that he had “made big efforts to improve” as time went on and that “we must ensure that the past is never repeated.”
