Donegal celebrity chef Conrad Gallagher is in the news again this week. As a number of times previously, it involves his financial dealings, although he defended his actions and said that he had worked “aggresively” to prevent it happening.

His latest offering in Sligo ‘Conrad’s Kitchen’, was closed last week after it emerged it owed the Revenue Commisioners n50,000 in unpaid VAT, PRSI and PAYE.

He has also run into difficulties at his Dublin establishment ‘Salon des Saveurs’ on Aungier Street, as the company operating the premises ‘Boutique Restaurant Concepts’ owed an estimated n116,000 in taxes.

Due to his previous bankruptcies, the Donegal man was not a Director of the companies involved himself, but they included his mother and wife.

He opened Sligo’s “Conrad’s Kitchen” bistro in September 2010, which was initially located at the town’s ‘Model’ Centre, before moving to another location at Rockwood Parade.

Following last week’s court ruling, the Donegal chef said that he had worked “aggressively” in an attempt to reach an agreement with the Revenue so as to avoid any further court hearings.

“It was a surprise and a shock that the Collector General dealt with this matter in such a heavy-handed, speedy and costly manner, with no opportunity for resolution despite several offers being made by the companies,” he said in a statement.
