Gardai in Ballyshannon are investigating a serious alleged incident which is said to have taken place in the town on Sunday night.
However, the Democrat has learned that a rape allegation is at the centre of the investigation, which is being followed up, on foot of a complaint, made by a female to gardai. She is understood to be from the locality.
A garda team, comprising of members of the ‘Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit’ spent much of of Monday searching the location on Main Street, where the alleged incident is said to have taken place.
When contacted, Ballyshannon based Supt Jimmy Coen told the paper: “I can confirm that an investigation is taking place. Since we are at the initial stages of that same investigation, I won’t be commenting any further at this time.”
