Pringle pushes for hospital progress

The Health Service Executive (HSE) has assured Thomas Pringle, independent TD, that they intend to begin reopening closed beds in Dungloe Community Hospital in September.

Deputy Pringle had asked the minister for health and children whether he would authorise the HSE to reopen the 14 beds that were closed in December 2010 due to staffing shortages.

“The closure of these beds was having a detrimental effect on the community in Dungloe and surrounding areas, and causing real hardship for everyone,” Deputy Pringle said. “People could not understand how the beds could be closed while an extension to provide extra beds is under construction.”

In response, John Hayes, HSE area manager for Donegal, assured the Donegal South West deputy that he intended to reopen the beds incrementally from September, following the return to work of staff who had been on statutory leave.
