After Donegal’s own celebrity chef’s performance on last Tuesday’s episode it was all to play for Kilcar man Noel Cunningham who is a highly qualified chef in his own right having catered for many celebrities including the Queen Mother on some of her frequent visits to Ascot.
The reaction to Noel’s performance on Tuesday evening was highly praised on the social networks, Facebook and Twitter where the unaminous sentiments were that the popular Kilcar man should have his own show but the beautiful Roz Purcell who competed in Miss Universe just pipped him at the post.
Noel achieved a very credible 31 points from his fellow diners on Tuesday evening in a highly entertaining show which featured the acclaimed fiddle player, Matt McGranaghan entertaining his guests.
Last night the beautiful Roz Purcell was equally entertaining but may not have risen to the same heights as the Kicar man in her culinary expertise.
However, she did manage to pip the Donegal favourite by the smallest number of points.
Noel, in his usual fashion was lavish in the praise of Roz but quipped, “I don’t think it was her cooking that got her the votes - more like her good looks and economic use of clothes! There is no doubt that both Paul Martin and George McMahon were both smitten by her. On reflection maybe I should have shown a bit of cleavage too!”
He also told the Donegal Democrat last night, “I was absolutely thrilled with the response I have had from everybody who viewed the show and it was a great opportunity for me to highlight what is best about Donegal - the best of Donegal Monkfish and Prawns and Kilcar Chicken sprinkled with our famed Donegal hospitality.
“The show is far from over - I warn you ! Look out for some explosive stuff to come.”
Noel is now heading for pastures new and is joining the management team of Harvey’s Point after his long stint in the acclaimed Kitty Kelly’s Restauraunt outside Killybegs.
He revealed to the Donegal Democrat, “I felt it was a time for a new challenge but I wanted something that would satisfy the desire to do what I like doing best - looking after people in the hospitality business and continuing my involvement in the entertainment business.
“It really is great to make a living out of what you like doing best and I am grateful to Deirdre McGlone of Harvey’s Point for affording me this opportunity.
“The Hotel will be running a very exciting entertainment season and the whole thing is such an exciting challenge - I know it will be one of the best in the country.”
Cunningham concluded, “I would like to extend my sincere thanks and future best wished to Hugh O’Donnell who has now some very exciting plans for Kitty’s.
“I have great memories of Kitty’s and I know that Hughie will make a great success of it - meanwhile I look forward to welcoming each and everyone out to Harvey’s Point.
“There are exciting times ahead.”
