Last Friday March 9th, Donegal Adventure Centre in Bundoran proudly hosted the very first graduation of students from the first ever FÁS course in Surfing and Lifeguarding.

Sixteen students began the course last November, and have trained hard in winter weather to improve their skills in surf instruction, lifeguarding, leadership and teaching skills, first aid and child protection. Donegal Adventure Centre and FÁS are delighted that Bundoran has not just hosted this first course, but that there has been such great support for this type of course among the surf schools in the local area.

Many thanks are due to trainer assessors Kenneth Keane, and Kyle Willshire, Neil Ellis, Cillian Costigan and administrator and trainer Trisha Corr, administrator Ciara O Shea, to Jack Britton from Lifeguards Ireland and Zoe Lally from the Irish Surf Association for their great contribution to the course

Donegal Adventure Centre have been running Outdoor Instructor training courses since 2006, and offer a range of options for Irish and overseas students to come to Bundoran to train in surfing, lifeguarding and the leadership skills that are required for the job. Many American students have trained with DAC as part of their gap year studies and we were delighted to have Professor Travis Feezel & a group of sports students from Belmont Abbey North Carolina in attendance too. Professor Feezel has worked closely with The Donegal Adventure Centre over the past four years bringing groups of young Americans sports students to Bundoran and was very impressed with the students and the support that was provided by both the town and FÁS.

Training manager Niamh Hamill is very grateful to everyone who supports the work of educational development and training in outdoor sports and for the encouragement of initiatives that bring students into Bundoran.

On the night Bundoran Town Council was represented by Lord Mayor Michael Mc Mahon, Chairman Sean Mc Eniff, Town Clerk Joe Mc Nulty, and Tourism Officer Tracey Ferguson.

Donegal Adventure Centre manager Colm MacPhaidin and his staff would especially like to thank Michael Carr, Charlie Gorney and Guven Faracli and all the staff of FAS in Letterkenny. Thanks also to Paddy & Keith -La Sabbia Restaurant, John O Connell - Atlantic Apartotel.

Congratulations to the sixteen graduates, and we look forward to the next course. For further information on any of the training available at Donegal Adventure Centre, please email info@donegaladventurecentre.com or phone 071 984 2418.
