A large crowd turned out last weekend to pay their last respects to well known east Donegal musician, Kathleen McGinley.
Ms.McGinley was laid to rest following her funeral mass at in Saint Eunan’s Church Raphoe on Sunday morning.
Kathleen, who was originally from St. Johnston was widely known throughout the county for being one of the leading exponents of the Donegal tradition style of fiddle playing.
She is survived by her five children, Mary a teacher in St. Johnston, Martin the former editor of the Donegal Democrat and now editor of the Derry Journal, Enda who lives in England and Eugene and Seamus who both live in Raphoe.
Kathleen’s late husband, Seamus, a native of Creeslough, passed away fourteen years ago.
“She was a lovely woman who was very much liked in her hometown of Raphoe. She was a very well known and much respected musician,” Canon Denis McGettigan said. She will be sadly missed by all her family and all who knew her.
