The search for a 91-year-old Killybegs man who went missing from Killybegs Community Hospital today has ended in double tragedy.
The man’s body was found at around 4.30pm today in the water near the pier.
This was just two and half hours after the body of a 50-year-old man from Glencolmcille was found in the water near a slipway only 100 metres away.
The first body was discovered during the search for the missing elderly man.
Although the identities of both men have been confirmed, their names are not being released until their families have been informed.
Thomas Pringle, TD, said the people of Killybegs are in shock at today’s events.
“The hearts of everyone here were already very much going out to the people of Union Hall this week, with the loss of the Tir Bonhomme.
“We are all shocked and deeply saddened at the news of these two deaths here today.
“It’s a double blow for the people of Killybegs and the greater Donegal south west area, given that one of the men was from Glencolmcille.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with their families at this terrible time.”
