A 48-year-old father of five from Termon died on Saturday when he was struck by a tree he was cutting at Doon Well, Termon.
Danny Gallagher, from Doon Rock, Termon, died following the accident on land at his brother, Ciaran’s home at Doon Well. The accident occurred at 1pm on Saturday when the two brothers were attempting to cut a 20-25 ft high evergreen palm tree to allow more light into the house.
A Garda spokesman said: “The deceased was cutting the tree while his brother was driving a tractor with a rope attached that had been looped around the tree to guide it to fall in a certain direction.
“It appears the tree changed direction and despite his attempts to avoid the falling tree, Danny was struck.”
It’s understood the deceased had almost cleared the danger and was struck by some of the branches from the top part of the tree.
Married, he leaves behind his wife and five children ranging in age from 2 to 19 years of age.
Removal took place from Letterkenny General Hospital at 4pm today (Monday) to his late residence. House private on Wednesday morning.
Funeral mass will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday morning in St Columba’s Church, Termon, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Family flowers only, donations in lieu if desired to The Jack & Jill Foundation.
