Garda investigations are continuing into what was described as a “serious assault” on an 18 year old man in Lifford at the weekend.

The youth was knocked unconscious after having had a bottle thrust in his head and also had his fingers broken. He was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital following the incident which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning during a fracas involving a number of young men and a woman at the Beechwood Grove housing estate.

Gardai were called to the scene of the assault and the area was cordoned off as investigations continued.

“It was a serious assault and we are continuing our investigations into the incident. The young man is making a statement to Gardai on the matter and we will follow on from there,” Garda Inspector Kevin Gately told the ‘Democrat’ yesterday.

The teenager has since been released from hospital.
