‘Bressie’ set to return home

The Donegal Democrat can exclusively reveal that Niall Breslin, formerly lead singer of the Blizzards and now “The Judge of The Voice” on RTE will appear in Donegal Town during the Donegal Summer festival on Sunday, July 15.

For the man who has stolen the hearts of practically every woman in the country from 7 to 70, his trip to Donegal will represent a form of a homecoming as Breslin has close relatives in both Frosses and in Bundoran.

Had Breslin not opted for a musical career there is little doubt that he would have represented his country on the hallowed grounds of the Aviva Stadium.

Initially his interest was in the GAA where he represented his native Westmeath at both Minor and Under - 21 level and won a Leinster Senior Championship medal with his county in 200.

He then switched over to Rugby and played with Leinster for 2 years and earning 14 caps before embarking on his musical career.

This newspaper spotted an entry on his blog earlier this week where he confirmed his Donegal Town gig. Breslin is a frequent blogger and user of social media where he communicates with his fans.

Bressie is surviving in a fast-changing music industry and The Voice is not just another paycheck for him. He is deadly serious and committed and for many he’s also the main reason for watching.

“With a show like that you just don’t know how people are going to perceive you”, he said, “I just thought, I’m going to do exactly what I’d do if I was talking to somebody in the pub.

“My dad said, ‘don’t be yourself’, but I think he was joking! I’ve been myself and lucky enough, people have been receptive. The thing about it is, I am trying to push the musical side of it.”

Paul Kennedy of the Abbey Hotel and one of the organisers of the Summer Festival confirmed that Ireland’s hottest property was set to rock the Eskeside town, “To be quite honest we haven’t even mentioned this to anybody and already I am getting calls looking to book multiple tickets. “ will be the first official confirmation and I have a sneaking suspicion that after this article, I am probably going to have to try and book him for a second night.

“His drawing power is just simply phenomenal.”
