Two men have been shot in Derry.

Police say the men were shot a number of times shortly after 11pm last night (Wednesday) at Gartan Square in the Bogside area of the city.

The victims are being treated in hospital but it is understood their injuries are not beleived to be life threatening.

Only hours earlier a group of mothers took to the street of Creggan to protest at death threats being issued against their sons by Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD).

On February 9, armed men shot and killed 24-year-old father of two Andrew Allen in Buncrana. The following week, RAAD claimed responsibility for the killing.

SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey condemned last night’s attack.

“There is no place in a civilised society for vigilante justice and the people of Derry have made that clear with repeated demonstrations against the likes of Republican Action Against Drugs,” he said.

“I cannot stress enough how fed up the people of Derry are with attacks like these and we will be tireless in our campaign against the thugs who carried out last night’s shootings.”

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
