One of Ireland’s top surfers got a very pleasant surprise yesterday morning as he made his way to post his surf report which goes up every morning on the internet, providing an invaluable service to the surfers of Ireland.
Richard Fitzgerald, who has gained a reputation as not only the pioneer but one of the best “Big Wave” surfers in Europe ,was on his way along the shore front in Bundoran when he noticed a brand new addition to the promenade.
Richie said: “I was just coming up Atlantic Drive towards Waterworld as dawn broke when I noticed a sparkling new fountain jutting about 20 feet into the air.
“What was ironic about it was that it was located just opposite the new night club which is appropriately called ‘Aqua’- even though it was apparent that it was quite a serious burst water main, I honestly believe that a few fountains around the resort would be a great enhancement to the town.
“After all we owe our living in this town to the water which is just on our front door - surfing, swimming and all sorts of water based activities.
“As much as I liked this temporary new addition to the town I’m afraid I became a responsible citizen and reported it to all the relevant authorities.”
