A seventh resident at Fahan’s Nazareth House has died from influenza.
The patient, who died on Sunday, had been transferred from Nazareth House to Letterkenny General Hospital.
The death follows that of a patient at the home on Friday, which was not thought to be caused by the virus.
In a statement, the HSE said an additional seven residents at the nursing home who had been diagnosed with the condition were being monitored.
Five of these were ‘showing definite signs of improvement’.
There have been no new cases since April 4.
A statement also said the residents in the home are currently receiving either active or preventative treatment.
The first death at the home occurred on March 22, there were two deaths on March 29, one death on March 31 and one each on April 1 and 2.
Three of the residents had been transferred to Letterkenny General Hospital before they died, and three had died in the home.
The outbreak was notified to the HSE by a GP who had visited the home on Sunday, April 1.
The statement said: “The HSE North West public health team including medical doctors, nurses and surveillance scientists continue to closely manage and monitor the situation,”
The HSE also called on people visiting older residents of nursing homes, including health care staff, to ensure their vaccinations for influenza are up to date.
The European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) recently reported that the strain of flu A (H3) has changed slightly and is an imperfect fit with the A (H3) component of the seasonal influeza vaccine.
