An Independent member of Bundoran Town Council is expected to join Sinn Féin this week.
When contacted this morning, Cllr Diarmaid Doherty, who was elected in 2009, would neither confirm nor deny the move.
His only comment was that he “would not be speaking to anyone until Friday morning”, when he will issue a formal statement.
Despite his reticence, the general expectation is that he will join the party tomorrow, bringing the number of Sinn Féin councillors in Bundoran to three. His party colleagues are Mick McMahon, who just completed his term as Mayor and Sean Carty who was co-opted to the council when Arthur Rafferty stepped down.
