A 34-year-old man has died after the van he was a passenger in overturned at the weekend.

A 34-year-old man has died after the van he was a passenger in overturned at the weekend.

The man, named locally as Stephen McElwaine from Convoy, was seriously injured when the Ford Transit van overturned at around 9.40pm on Saturday on a back road between Drumkeen and Stranorlar at Ballinaglack.

He passed away yesterday afternoon at Letterkenny General Hospital after being treated for serious injuries.

Mr McElwaine was one of three men in the van when it crashed two miles from Stranorlar. One was treated for minor injuries while the third escaped without injury.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the accident and have asked that anyone who was in the Convoy and Drumkeen areas on Saturday, who might be of assistance, to come forward.
