Des Cahill, up for the match - and Donegal

RTÉ sports presenter Des Cahill is facing into one of the busiest, but he readily admits, most enjoyable weekends of his life. He presents the ‘Sunday Game’ live on the big day and, on the night before, co-hosts with Grainne Seóige, the hugely popular ‘Up for the Match’ programme. He also has a day job - on radio sport.

RTÉ sports presenter Des Cahill is facing into one of the busiest, but he readily admits, most enjoyable weekends of his life. He presents the ‘Sunday Game’ live on the big day and, on the night before, co-hosts with Grainne Seóige, the hugely popular ‘Up for the Match’ programme. He also has a day job - on radio sport.

Most will know the public face of the affable Dub who never seems to get ruffled, but outside Donegal, less may know that Des’s big week will run against the background of not so silent cheers of “Up Donegal”.

The Cahill household has a very serious leaning towards Donegal. His Ballyshannon born wife, Caroline, has never lost her love for her native county and in Des’s own words, she “won’t listen to a bad word said by anyone about Donegal”.
