A man is due to appear at Letterkenny District Court on Thursday following a single vehicle collision in Portnoo at the weekend.

Gardaí have confirmed that two local men in their 20s were injured after a car mounted a grass verge on the Portnoo to Rosbeg road and struck the pedestrians at around 2.30am on Sunday.

The driver, a 37-year-old from outside the jurisdiction was apprehended at the scene. He was taken to Letterkenny Garda Station and charged with alleged drink driving and alleged dangerous driving.

Meanwhile Gardaí and the Road Safety Authority have urged motorists to slow down and take care on the roads. The appeal was issued after four young men, three of them brothers, died in a crash in Tullamore, Co. Offaly on Friday, while seven young people were hospitalised following three further crashes over the weekend.
