The public have been asked to be on the alert after reports of a man dressed as Santa Claus falsely claiming to be collecting for the RNLI in Bundoran at the weekend.
A spokeperson for the RNLI said: “Gardaí were alerted in Bundoran on Sunday to a man wearing a Santa suit claiming to be collecting money for the local RNLI. He called to a premises in the West End of the town on Sunday evening around 6.30. We understand that he was out and about in the town over the weekend.
“There are currently no collections operations in the area and, if you suspect anyone of collecting money fraudulently on behalf of the organisation, please report them to the Gardaí.
“If anyone is approached by anyone in any type of costume claiming they are collecting for us, please be assured that they are not. While we will soon be selling tickets for our dinner dance in February, the only people selling them will be our crew members and volunteers, who are generallly well known in the community.”
