Gardai at Bunbeg Garda Station are investigating the discovery of what may be human remains which were found on Magheragallon beach, Derrybeg at around 2.30 on Sunday afternoon. The bones were discovered by people who were on the ‘Trá Dhearg’ beach enjoying the good weather.

The remains have been removed for further examination and the county coroner has been notified. The scene is sealed off as an investigation got underway. It is understood that the remains may be that of a leg or an arm and may have been washed in with the sea.

This is not the first occasion that bones were discovered in the area. In April 2010, a skull was discovered in a quarry in Carrick a short distance away from Magheragallon beach.
