Gardai in Letterkenny are awaiting the arrival of the State Pathologist to determine the cause of death of a man who was found at an apartment at Lower Main Street, Letterkenny at 11am this morning.
The body of the man, who was in his 40’s, remains at the scene. The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination. A garda spokesperson said they could not call it a murder inquiry until the state pathologist had arrived and established cause of death.
Thomas Bowes from Chicago, who lives in the apartment complex, said he knew that there was something wrong when gardaí and detectives began to gather at the Lower Main Street complex this morning.
He said: “I was away in Arranmore Island at my parents’ house for a few days. When I arrived back a garda was here stopping cars and asking questions. I asked him what it was all about and he didn’t tell me. I knew it had to be serious with the number of gardaí and detectives that were here.”
Further detectives arrived at the scene at 3.30pm. It is understood that gardaí and detectives were visiting a local business premises to view CCTV to help them in their investigation.
