The owner of the 5 million euro Lotto jackpot winning ticket that was sold in Donegal at the weekend had still not claimed their prize yesterday.

The winning ticket of Saturday’s 5,146,800 euro jackpot was sold in Doherty’s Costcutters in Ballybofey on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for the National Lottery said yesterday that it was not unusual for a jackpot winner to have not claimed their prize four days after the draw was made. “Some come straight in on the Monday morning, some leave it for a few weeks,” she said. “We are looking forward to meeting the winner and we have the champagne on ice for them.”

Winning Lotto tickets can be claimed a maximum of 90 days after the draw was made.

The 4 euro icket was bought with selected numbers on Saturday. Michael Doherty, owner of the Costcutters supermarket that sold the winning ticket, said there has been speculation in the town about who the winner may be.

He said he would be happy for whoever won it, “but if they are local all the better”.

“There are a lot a rumours, a few names knocking around about who it may be but there is not much foundation to any of them.”

Lottery sales in the shop had increased since Saturday, he said.

“Everyone is trying to latch on to the luck of the Dohertys.”
