Hundreds of local Sinn Féin members will be in County Mayo this weekend (Friday 12th and Saturday 13th April) for the first Sinn Féin Ard Fhéis (Annual Conference) to be held in the west of Ireland. Much of the focus of the two day event will be on Sinn Féin’s proposals to regenerate the rural Western economy from Donegal to Cork.

Deputy Pádraig Mac Lochlainn said: “Sinn Féin members gather in Castlebar from across the Island in the knowledge that our party has never been in a stronger position in terms of public support. However we are also mindful of our responsibility to come forward with solutions to this economic crisis and viable alternatives to the Fine Gael/ Labour coalition government.

“In recent years, we have repeatedly presented the government with alternatives to their stubborn pursuit of austerity and endless cutbacks, particularly at budget time. We have given them our job creation proposals calling for a radical change in the governments failed policy and soon we will launch our proposals for the regeneration of rural Ireland.

“The common thread through all of our work is that the government does have choices. They are not entirely beholden to the Troika. And that our people need hope that we can genuinely see economic recovery”.
