One of Ireland’s best known department stores is expected to announce in the coming days that it is opening a premises in Donegal town.
Sources in business community in the town say Heatons is expected to confirm it’s decision to locate in the town within days.
There has been speculation in town about the identity of the new occupant for the former Mary’s of Donegal store which closed in its doors in January with the loss of 156 jobs. The closure was blamed on the economic downturn.
Work on the premises, which enjoys a prime location on the Diamond, has seen re-roofing completed and the interior now stretches back to the River Eske, It is expected that work on the new shop front will commence this week.
Heatons have 52 stores nationwide including one in Letterkenny and is one of the largest groups of department stores in the country.
It offers a wide product range including fashion for all ages, contemporary footwear, home ware and a comprehensive sports department.
The company declined to comment on the speculation when contacted.
