A Sinn Féin Deputy has welcomed remarks made by Cllr. Sean McEniff in relation to the controversy over earlier comments on the Travelling community.
Last weekend it emerged that no charges were to be filed in relation to remarks made by Cllrs. Sean McEniff and Eugene Dolan and Donegal Democrat columnist Frank Galligan.
Cllr. McEniff told this newspaper on Sunday last “As far as I am concerned it is now time to move on and to come up with solutions that are acceptable to all sections of the community.”
Speaking on local radio on Monday morning he repeated these remarks but highlighted some of the problems involving a section of the Travelling Community during the peak summer months.
Deputy Padraig Mac Lochlainn welcomed the councillor’s remarks and in particular his desire to “move forward”.
“I acknowledge that there was a problem during the summer and feel there is an onus on the representatives of the Travelling Community to mediate in situations like this.”
