Gardaí are still looking for the gang armed with an axe who broke into the home of a west Donegal pensioner and assaulted him.
The 67-year-old was beaten and left badly shaken by the attack which took place at his home near Falcarragh.
The four men woke the pensioner from his bed and forced him from his home before assaulting him and ransacking the house. They made off with the man’s shotgun and ammunition as well as cash.
The attack took place on Thursday night, but the alert was not raised until Friday when a neighbour of the man called with him.
It has emerged that one of the gang of four was carrying an axe although it was not used in the attack.
While his injuries are not serious, the man, who has mobility issues resulting from a childhood illness, has been left badly shaken by the attack.
