Donegal County Council (DCC) can confirm that a series of correspondences have been received by the Ethics Registrar in the Council over the past number of days. The correspondences are anonymous in nature and signed off on behalf of ‘Tax Payers of Donegal and Rate Payers of Donegal.’

The correspondences relate to current and former councillors and alleges possible contraventions of Part 15 of the Local Government Act, 2001 and the Code of Conduct for Councillors with regard to attendance at Conferences and seminars over a period from 2006 to 2012.

In the main, the allegations suggest that the current and former councillors concerned did not attend for the full duration of certain conferences or seminars.

DCC will examine the correspondences in accordance with the provisions of Part 15 of the Local Government Act, 2001 and the Code of Conduct for Councillors, and process any matters arising in line with the provisions as set down.

DCC will not be making any further statements in this matter until this examination is fully completed.
