Remanded on murder charge

A 47-year-old Polish man charged with the murder of Bogdan Michalkiewicz in Letterkenny last month will reappear in court on Friday.

A 47-year-old Polish man charged with the murder of Bogdan Michalkiewicz in Letterkenny last month will reappear in court on Friday.

Dariusz Weckowicz, of no fixed abode, appeared at Carndonagh District Court yesterday. He was charged with the murder of Mr Michalkiewicz on a date unknown between June 13 and June 15 at Westside Apartments, Lower Main Street, Letterkenny.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Harristown District Court this Friday, June 21.

The accused was arrested by Garda Sergeant Michael Carroll at Letterkenny Garda Station on Tuesday morning and charged with the murder a short time alter.

The court heard when charged he denied committing the crime as alleged.

Defence solicitor, Kieran Dillon applied for legal aid and said he may raise a query under the Criminal Justice Act regarding his clients detention at Letterkenny Garda Station.
