Members of the Donegal Electoral Area Committee have agreed to pay €5,000 towards Christmas lights in Donegal Town.
A deputation from Donegal Town Community Chamber told the Electoral Area meeting in Drumlonagher Public Services Centre yesterday that they were facing a serious funding shortage. Chamber Chairperson Bernie Mulhern and Ernan McGettigan asked if the members would agree to make a contribution Cllr. Barry O’Neill expressed concern that if the council funded lights in Donegal Town, other towns would also look for support. Peadar Thomas said the council had given €14,000 towards Donegal Town Christmas lights over the last three years. Cllr. Brendan Byrne proposed donating €5,000 and Cllr. Sean McEniff seconded the proposal.
