There is something mysterious and poignant about the shipwreck that lay beneath the waters near Rutland Island.

Located a short boat trip away from the coastal Gaeltacht village of Burtonport, the early 17th-century wreck over the past four years has drawn a team of divers and archeologists who hope to uncover its secrets.

Connie Kelleher of the underwater archaeology unit of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, wrote about the project for the current issue of The Rosses Annual 2013, now available in shops.

In today’s Donegal Democrat, he talks to reporter Carolyn Farrar about the search for answers beneath Donegal waters.
