The Gathering has been responsible for 189 events in Donegal alone. This astonishing figure was revealed to local councillors at the recent meeting of the Donegal Electoral Area Committee.

Barney McLaughlin, Area Manager of Community, Development and Enterprise, said 110 Gathering events were held across the country in July and August, while a further 15 are taking place this month. The Gallagher Clan just concluded their Global Gathering in Gortahork and Sew North is currently on in Buncrana.

Still to come are: the Donegal to Antrim Appalachian Trail Walking Festival (Setp. 23-27), based at Harvey’s Point Hotel; The Scotch Weekend (Sept. 27) in Dungloe; The Johnny Doherty Festival (Sept. 26-29) in Ardara; the Annual Tip O’Neill Diaspora Award (Sept. 27-29) in Buncrana; Culture Night (Sept. 20) at venues throughout Letterkenny; and the Donegal Bay and Bluestacks Festival (Sept. 28- Oct. 7) at venues across south and west Donegal.

The Gathering has also been a big success from a web point of view, Mr McLaughlin said. July and August saw record high statistics on donegalgathering.com, with more than 36,900 hits in the two months and over 17,900 page views in July alone. The websites have generated a lot of comments and queries, he added, mostly people seeking Gatherings connected to their roots.
