The Chief Executive of the Board of West/North West Hospitals is hopeful that the Emergency Department at Letterkenny General Hospital will be open by February.
Bill Maher was speaking following the first meeting held by the hospital group in Letterkenny. “We are confident that the Emergency Department will be back, up and running, if we don’t find anything untoward, by February. That is if everything goes according to plan,” he said.
On July 26, 40 per cent of the floor space was wiped out when 57mm of rainwater fell in 15 minutes eliminating 70 per cent of the hospital capacity. To date the design team has already been appointed and the scope of work identified.
“The flooding of Letterkenny General Hospital is regarded as the most significant disaster of the state in the acute sector.
“We will ensure that the new buildings are restored in line with current standards in patient care, resulting in improvements in a number of areas,” Mr. Maher told the meeting.
