A Donegal father and son team have made history by breeding what’s believed to be Donegal’s first ever senior over all female champion pedigree Charolais at the pretigious Tullamore Show.

A Donegal father and son team have made history by breeding what’s believed to be Donegal’s first ever senior over all female champion pedigree Charolais at the pretigious Tullamore Show.

“We didn’t win Sam, but we won Tullamore,” beamed a delighted John McElchar this week.

Damian and John McElchar, who operate a small farm at Ballylast, between Lifford and Castlefinn, have been breeding top class animals for many years. Their national winner was in fact a junior female champion in 2012.

Named ‘Ballylast Grogeous”, the two and a half year old Charolais won the overall champion of all breeds at Finn Valley show in 2013.
