If you want to have a drink on Christmas night you may have to stay at home for it.
Garda Inspector Denis Joyce told Ballyshannon Court on Friday they are opposing any applications for nightclubs to open after midnight on Christmas Night. The issue arose when Conor McEniff applied for fifteen special late night extensions for Paris nightclub in Bundoran.
Insp. Joyce said Judge Paul Kelly has been refusing applications for Christmas night in the north of the county. He started doing this last year after hearing garda objections, based on public order considerations.
He asked Judge Kevin Kilrane to consider taking the same stance, adding “we’re thin on the ground”.
Judge Kilrane granted fourteen exemptions but adjourned the application for Christmas night to Sligo District Court next Thursday to give him time to consider the matter.
