Council gets another chance to adopt a budget

Donegal county councillors will meet on Monday, Jan. 13th, to again try and adopt a revenue budget for 2014.

Donegal county councillors will meet on Monday, Jan. 13th, to again try and adopt a revenue budget for 2014.

After councillors voted by a narrow margin early Wednesday morning to reject the budget, Liam Ward, acting county secretary, told councillors the council executive had obtained legal advice on Tuesday night that informed them councillors had until midnight, Jan. 13th, to adopt a revenue budget.

Councillors from each of the political groupings said afterwards that they had been unaware of the provision that would have given them until Jan. 13th to adopt a budget.

The meeting adjourned at about 1.30am on Wednesday and will reconvene at 11am on Jan. 13th.
