The community of Buncrana is in shock today after a 13-year-old local boy died after being hit by a car last night.
An investigation is now underway after the boy and his father were hit by a car at Ballymccarry, Cockhill at around 10.30pm.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The father, who is in his 50s, was also taken to in Letterkenny General Hospital. His injuries are not life threatening.
As part of the forensic investigation, the road from Carndonagh to Buncrana is currently diverted at Clonbeg, while Buncrana to Carndonagh is diverted over Westbrook Bridge, and the Illes Road to Buncrana is diverted at Kinnego Cross.
A post mortem examination will take place later today.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Buncrana Garda Station on 074 9320540, the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
