Gardai are carrying out investigations into the death of a man in his late forties who was found in a drain only yards from his home outside Ballintra this morning (Friday).

It is understood that the man’s body was found by Donegal County Council workers at approximately 9am when they were carrying out hedge cutting at The Derries, on a bye-road between Ballintra and Pettigo.

Gardaí have sealed off the area and preserved the scene.

Locals in the nearby village of Ballintra are shocked by the death of two members of the community within hours of each other this morning. The second death was that of a local farmer and builder who lost his life in an accident on the N15 just before noon.
