A county councillor who has cancer has slammed unnamed fellow party members over rumours he won’t contest the May elections.
Cllr. Brendan Byrne, who was diagnosed with cancer over two years ago, spoke out last week after he became aware that unnamed party members were casting doubt on his candidature in May, citing health reasons.
Byrne told the Democrat/DPP: “I received a telephone call from a reporter informing me that “running mates” had stated I would not be running. I replied that ‘I had no running mates and would be contesting the election as I have previously stated’. This is nothing but dirty tricks.”
