Thirty bikers are setting out from Dublin to traverse the country and raise funds for Irish Premature Babies and delivering.life saving equipment to the Neonatal Intensive Care Units of eleven hospitals.

You can catch up with them as they head to Letterkenny on Friday and pass through the south of the county on Saturday on the return leg to Dublin.

Each of the participants has raised €1,000 through events such as sponsored raffles, bucket collections, as well as Bikers do Zumba for Irish Premature Babies. The bikers, some of whom are parents of premature babies, will deliver much needed equipment to eleven Neonatal Units all over Ireland.

The various pieces of equipment set to take the trip around Ireland include incubators, heart monitors, ventilation and CPAP machines, as well as apnea monitors. Without Irish Premature Babies these pieces of equipment would be in limited supply.

Over the course of the four day trip, which starts today and ends Sunday, the bikers will visit Neonatal ICU’s, meet the committed staff who care for premature babies and present each of the units with medical equipment they need.

Every 116 minutes a premature baby is born in Ireland: that’s over 4,500 premature babies a year. With the skills of staff and experts and the support of family and loving parents, more and more are surviving to live happy healthy lives. The start they get in life is the crucial factor, with babies with a gestation of as short as 24 weeks being born.

To date, more than €100,000 has been raised for this very worthy cause.

Please come to your local hospital to greet the riders and show your support to the charity. For the route and updates, visit www.irishprematurebabies.com.
