Angler drowned at Belleek named locally as Kieran Doherty
The body of a young county Fermanagh man was taken from the river Erne this afternoon.

The body of a young county Fermanagh man was taken from the river Erne this afternoon.

The man, who has been named locally as Kieran Doherty, had been fishing near the Carlton Hotel in Belleek before the tragedy struck.

The dead man’s jacket was found, which prompted an air and ground search of the river.

The emergency services which included fire brigade, ambulance and the PSNI carried, out a search in conjunction with a helicopter rescue service from Sligo.

The man, who was in his early 30s, was taken from the river shortly after 5 pm yesterday by rescue services.

His remains were taken to hospital for a post mortem examination.
