Early this morning work commenced on the Old Abbey in Donegal in an attempt to restore it to it’s former glory.
This follows an inspection by Cllr. Sean McEniff yesterday on the historic monastic settlement which was the home of the Four Masters.
The councillor was shocked at the condition of the Abbey which also has an historic cemetery. “It seems to be used as a drinking den with all the empty bottles and glass around.
““This is not an election ploy - my wife has many of her family buried here and I just want to see the whole place tidied up. On a longer term I am arranging Fás to get involved in this project.”
