One determined Gaoth Dobhair woman has lost three stone and ten pounds in the last 12 months following her 2013 New Year’s resolution.
Patsy Murray joined Slimming World in Gaoth Dobhair this time last year and hasn’t looked back.
She had struggled with weight since she had her third child. Due to the excess weight, she suffered with her health. She joined Slimming World in Gaoth Dobhair which is run by Nicola Ferry, in January 2013.
Patsy said: “I was really nervous about walking into the group the first time, I figured there would be lots of new people joining the group as it was January and hoped I’d be able to blend into the background and not have to speak to anyone. There was such an atmosphere of fun and support and my consultant Nicola made me feel so welcome and at ease. After one session, I felt totally in control. I look forward to going to group every week now, it’s my ‘me’ time and I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” she said.
Slimming World’s Food Optimising healthy eating plan allows you to eat lots of everyday foods without weighing and measuring, as well as enjoying favourite treats in moderation. Patsy lost 7lb in one week and was shocked. She soon felt confident enough to start being active and walks six times a week and completed her first mini marathon in June.“I might have lost 3st 10lbs but I’ve gained so much more. I feel happier, healthier and have loads more confidence,” she said.
Nicola Ferry who runs the Gweedore Slimming World group said she’s extremely proud of what Patsy has achieved. “Patsy is proof that if you make small, manageable changes the way you cook and eat and get the right support, it’s possible to make your New Year’s resolutions a reality. It makes me feel sad to think that many people will embark on unhealthy, restrictive plans this January because I know that they won’t be able to keep them up for longer than a few days or weeks and feel like a failure when actually it’s the programme they’ve chosen that’s failed them.”
To join the Gweedore Slimming World group simply pop along or call Nicola on 087 1954011. Classes every Tuesday at 5.30pm, 7.30pm and Wednesday at 10am in Dore.
