A large number of parishioners attended the Ordination of Father Stephen Gorman on Sunday at St. Eunan’s Cathedral in Letterkenny.

The 27-year-old has become the first parishioner from the parish of Aughaninshin to be ordained as a priest. Fr. Gorman graduated with a 2.1 degree from Maynooth after having spent six years of study there. He joined the seminary in 2008 where he studied for the Diocese of Raphoe.

Since October, he has been acting as deacon in St. Peter’s Church, Milford, at the weekends. Earlier this month he met Pope Francis when he served as a Deacon at Pentecost Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

He is the son of Monica and the late Seamus Gorman who passed away in 2001. He has five older brothers, Mark, Seamus, Sammy, Patrick and John Paul. He has an older sister, Louise Cullen and a younger sister Christina.

He was educated at Scoil Cholmcille, Letterkenny and later at St. Eunan’s College.
