Land acquisition continues on N56

The N56 from Dungloe to Glenties was chosen as a pilot scheme for a new type of single carriageway. All necessary statutory approvals are in place and it has been proposed to construct the project in short sections members of Donegal County Council has been informed.

Construction of the first 3.5km from Cloghbolie to Boyoughter was substantially completed in 2012. Construction of the next section from Boyoughter to Kilkenny has not been feasible in 2014 due to funding restrictions.

However, it is hoped that funding will be available for the project in 2015.

Land acquisition is continuing.

Meanwhile ecological surveys are due to be completed on the N14 road from Letterkenny to Lifford.

No funding was allocated for this route for 2014 members of Donegal County Council have been informed.
