The service of the photographer who died after a tragic fall at Fanad Head at the weekend takes place today (Friday)

John McCourt, 58, known to his friends and family as “Budgie”, late of Antrim town, passed away in Letterkenny General Hospital on August 17 as the result of a tragic accident.

A Service of Thanksgiving for his life took place at Baird’s Funeral Home, Antrim then to Roselawn Crematorium for burial.

His family have described the well liked photographer as “irreplaceable”.

It is understood that Mr McCourt’s partner Sharon passed away last year.

He is survived by his brother and sister and step children and wider family cirlcle.

Mr McCourt is believed to have lost his footing and tumbled about 50 metres into a gully to the west of Fanad Lighthouse.

He was taken from the water by a member of the RNLI who entered the turbulent seas to rescue him.Despite the efforts of emergency services, Mr. McCourt was pronounced dead at Letterkenny General Hospital a short time later.
