A novice driver was clocked driving at more than 40km/h over the speed limit in Fahan on Sunday.
Gardaí have described as ‘treacherous’ the conditions in which they detected the motorist.
Officers from the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit clocked the car travelling at 101km/h in a 60km/h speed zone this evening in the Fahan area.
The novice driver was issued with a fixed charge penalty notice, which will see the motorist fined €80 and receive three penalty points.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Weather conditions are treacherous and visibility is poor. If you absolutely must travel, please drive safely and slow down.”
