The St Nauls team with the trophy
Nauls manager was very pleased with his sides performance in the LGFA Club Senior Division 2 League Final win over Urris.
The Mountcharles side ran out eight point winners in Lifford.
After the game “ ‘Delighted, this is something we planned on doing since the end of last year, so we are happy we were able to achieve it this year. Going up to division 1 as winners as well and fair play to Urris for putting it up to it for most of that game as well except maybe for that last 10 minutes where we pulled away with the breeze.” Glen Campbell told Donegallive.
We have a very young team here and the aim is to go hard again in the winter. So we can try and do something in division 1 and not just try and survive. We have been playing in the senior championship for the last three years and division 1 is the place you want to be to prepare properly for the championship. It was our aim to get this championship and we got there. I’m over the moon with everybody and proud of the girls and Pat Campbell and Caolin Deely. A lot of effort since last October and it’s just nice to get our rewards in these big games.”
Nauls captain Michaela Breslin
The Urris manager admitted that it would take a very good team to beat them.
“We knew we were going to have a tough battle here today with St Nauls. We knew they were a good side with a couple of county players. We were expecting that. Maybe we had some nerves on the day ourselves, maybe that translated into how the match unfolded. I’m not taking anything away from St Nauls, they are a very good side and I’m looking forward to meeting them next year in division 1.” Stated Mark Gilmore
Caoilfhinn Deely, Erin Doherty, Catherine Campbell, Meabh Gallagher and Aoibheann Gallagher with the cup
“We’ve had a very good season so far since the end of February. The girls have trained well and we’re unbeaten before today. We knew it was going to take a very good team to beat us and obviously St Nauls turned up today and maybe we left a little behind but we’ll dust ourselves down and look forward to the championship.”
Both teams can now look forward to playing division 1 football next year.
